Best of Basic: Fresh Lemon Iced Tea

Crisp, cleansing, healthy and refreshing – iced tea is seriously the best. I should clarify that when I say ‘iced tea’ I don’t mean an artificial, over-sweetened or heavily processed tea. I’m talking about fresh, pure, simple and naturally flavored tea. More specifically, my go-to iced tea – organic, freshly-brewed black tea mixed with lots of fresh lemon juice, served icy cold.

Of course, there are countless ways to get creative with tea/fruit/herb combos. And I love them all. But for refreshing flavor, everyday drinkability, a burst of caffeine, improved digestion, healthful hydration, detoxification and a vitamin c boost, this lemony iced black tea is pure perfection.

Fresh Lemon Iced Tea
Serves: 6-8     Start to Finish: 1 hour + refrigeration

Ingredients

water
10 black tea bags, individual size (organic preferred)*
2 lemons (or 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice)**

To Make

Boil 8 cups water.

Remove water from heat, add 10 black tea bags. Allow to steep until water temperature has lowered significantly to luke warm. This takes about an hour.*

Transfer tea to a large pitcher. Add cold water to fill pitcher, about 1.5 to 2 cups. Stir in fresh lemon juice. Refrigerate.

Enjoy ice cold.

*Whole Foods makes their own inexpensive and organic black tea. Each box comes with 7 packs of 10 teabags, and makes 7 pitchers of tea!

**2 lemons yield around 6 tablespoons of juice, but varies depending on the lemons. I find that 6 tablespoons is perfect for my taste.
